The CBC recently featured the VitisGen3 Project Director, Dr. Matthew Clark, in a new article by Darius Mahdavi. The piece touches upon the impacts of climate change on cold-climate vineyards, changing winter landscapes for Northern latitudes, and the role of biotechnology in solving problems related to disease control and cold-hardiness in V. vinifera plantings.

Finding candidate genes for a variety of important grape traits has always been an integral part of the VitisGen projects, and we're thrilled to have our contributions recognized via international venues. As Dr. Clark states in the article, "We're going to continue to have extreme weather events" because of climate change, and current grape cultivars may struggle to survive. These dynamics call for an increase in efficiency in the grape breeding process, and VitisGen3 plans to deliver.
